About This Project

The idea for Dictionary.com’s word comparison feature originated from a similar product on Thesaurus.com: synonym comparison. We’d seen increased engagement on Thesaurus.com after adding synonym comparison and wanted to test viability with an equivalent on Dcom. Prior to the launch of this feature, we were addressing about 10% of the opportunity through “extra credit” within the page (which didn’t rank well) and with editorial articles, which are time-consuming to produce by our content team.

The feature launched in November 2021 and marginally increased engagement with the definition page, due in part to the above-the-fold swap icon, which deviated slightly from the equivalent Tcom feature.
